I had the good fortune of being the Visiting Emerging Printmaker at the University of Akron in Ohio on October 1st and 2nd. I was received with the warmest of welcomes and the students blew me away with their energy and invigorating ideas. I met with each of the print classes to discuss artist books and prints, as well as the Bump It Mafia, which brought me more joy than I can say.
The trip was concluded with an artist lecture and workshop. I loved teaching the students the Drum Leaf Binding, which is a wonderful bookbinding technique for displaying prints and works on paper as only one side of each sheet of paper is visible. The finished books were beautiful and I could feel the excitement in some of the students as their minds were filled with new ideas for their work.
